Gathering Green was founded by Hiren Joshi, a civil engineer and passionate environmental enthusiast, in 2020. Hiren’s journey began on Instagram, driven by a vision to make a difference. Witnessing the efforts of others, he realised more action was needed and turned to social media, a powerful and accessible medium to support this cause.
Since then, Gathering Green has grown significantly, engaging over 500+ individuals in more than 50+ cleaning drives. So far, we have successfully collected over 1000+ tons of waste since the inception of Gathering Green. Hiren and his team have worked on making homes and offices waste-free, organized nature walks in and around Ahmedabad, and collaborated with local colleges to spread awareness about environmental issues.
We have been associated with AMC (Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation) since 2022, planting over 8000+ trees in the space provided by AMC. Gathering Green has signed an MOU with Reco Solutions to hand over all collected plastic for the company’s recycling efforts. Additionally, we have introduced Eco-Tourism, taking students from universities such as GLS and AU on cleanup hikes and nature education trips to places like Aravali Hills, Thol, and Kotheshwar – a scrub jungle near Ahmedabad. We also recently joined hands with GMC (Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation) for the Plastic Free July drive.
Our mission extends beyond cleaning drives. We promote environmental education and awareness, build capacity by educating and sensitizing communities on environmental issues, and work with local organizations to address local environmental concerns. We advocate for environmental justice through access to law, courts, and public opinion, raise awareness of court verdicts on environmental protection, and encourage the use of social audit systems for effective environmental protection.
Hiren’s journey has brought together like-minded individuals such as Ishan, Diya, Noor, Jalpan, and Vibhu, who share his commitment to environmental protection. Together, we continue to drive impactful initiatives and inspire positive change in our community.
